Youth Leader News
Winter '09 - '10
Core Goals
Teen & Youth Leaders,
Throughout the year Oregon Conference Youth Ministries provides one conference-wide academy/high school students' event each quarter. The purpose of these events is to enhance the Teen & Youth Ministries that are already happening within your church. It is our intent that Leaders who bring their youth to these events go home feeling that it was worth their effort.
Core Goals of Oregon Conference Youth Ministries (OYCM)
• Lift up Christ (commitment) - Camp Meeting (grades 9-12) (June, July, August)
• Live with Christ (discipleship) - Fall Bible Camp (grades 9-12) (Sept, Oct, Nov)
• Lead for Christ (leadership) - Winter Bible Camp (grades 9-12) (Dec, Jan, Feb)
• Love like Christ (service) - Go Fest (grades 9-12) (March, April, May)
Our purpose is to intentionally help our youth experience a fully-rounded lifestyle with Jesus Christ.
This Winter (December, January, February) the Core Goal that we are focusing on is:
• Lead for Christ (leadership) - Winter Bible Camp
We are modeling and encouraging our youth to:
• Actively involved in outreach ministry
• Trained for leadership
• Participating in a mentoring culture
• Prepared with tools to be leaders
• Shaping relevant corporate worship
Endeavoring to "Lead like Christ" and encouraging our youth to commit themselves to Him,

Young Adult Retreat
Our Conference-sponsored Young Adult Retreat at Big Lake September 13-15, 2009 was great! Led by Youth Pastors David Smith (Meadow Glade Church), Jeff Richards (Vancouver Church), Keith Bowman (Beaverton Church) there were about 50 Young Adults in attendance for the weekend experience. We are already looking forward and beginning to plan for next year's Young Adult Retreat.
Big Lake Golf Benefit
The annual BJ Christensen Memorial Golf Benefit held on September 13 at the Reserve Vineyards Golf Club was a fun day with friends who support Big Lake Youth Camp. With 73 people participating and nearly $33,060 was received in sponsorships. The proceeds raised go to the support and continuation of the awesome ministry of BLYC.
Fall Bible Camp Planning
Fall Bible Camp, held September 24-27 in central Oregon at the Washington's Family Ranch was an awesome experience again this year. About 300 students and 100 sponsors and kitchen workers from around the conference attended. Pastor Rob Moore from Allegany West Conference in Ohio was our guest speaker for the weekend along with a praise team of students from Walla Walla University. Again we have had very positive remarks back from students and sponsors alike for the wonderful time they had. We are planning to host next year's Fall Bible Camp 2010 at Washington's Family Ranch again.
Looking Forward
Winter Bible Camp
On February 19-21, 2010 we will be hosting our Winter Bible Camp at Big Lake Youth Camp. This Bible Camp is intended for Sabbath School Youth Leaders to come and bring their student Leaders in grades 9-12. The intentional focus will be on student leadership training for both the students and the adult leaders. We will have interactive training and learning from our presenters that will both encourage and challenge us as we spend the snowy weekend together. More information along with a registration form is posted at www.orgcyouth.adventistnw.org
Collegiate & Young Adult Ministry
There is a movement happening throughout our conference with College students who are starting small groups meeting weekly within their local church. If you are a college student or know some students go to the Facebook Group called Portland Metro Collegiate + Ministry
Also Re-Connect is a Young Adult Friday night vespers-style meeting happening ever 3rd Friday night of the month in the Portland area. It is organized by Portland-area Youth Pastors and young adults. It is an effort to connect young adults with each other for the greater purpose of worshiping. The monthly event features creativity through music, art, spoken word and, you name it... all to glorify the positive and to help connect people with God and each other. Go to Re-Connect on Facebook for more information.
